According to statistics compiled by the U.S. Coast Guard, boating deaths fell in U.S. waters during 2010, but not in New Jersey.  New Jersey lost 8 people in recreational boating accidents during 2010.  That is 2 more people than the state lost in 2009.  Nationally, 672 people died in boating accidents which is the lowest number ever recorded by the Coast Guard.

It is unclear what is causing more boating wrongful deaths in New Jersey.  However, it is worth noting that, according to the Coast Guard, the number of adult boaters wearing life jackets is also at an all time low.

If you will be boating in New Jersey waters this summer, please be safe. Wear your life jacket and promptly report any accidents or injuries.
